May PUG Meeting and Workshop!

We are pleased to announce that Jared Platt will be coming in from Phoenix on Wednesday, May 4th for the May PUG meeting to speak on Lightroom and workflow. Please note that this is a different day than usual. . In addition, he will be holding a workshop the following day. Details and more information on our PUG meeting and Jared’s workshop are below.

April PUG Meeting Info

Hi everyone!

This month’s meeting is going to be all about inquiries, initial consultations and how we each process through them.  Recently, Jason and I have noticed a distinct  decline in how many people actually include their telephone number when they inquire.  We have a telephone number field in our form, yet many choose not to use it.  It seems to be a sad sign of these digital times.  How are we supposed to sell such a personal service, when we cannot make personal contact with our inquires?

We all have been dealing with these changes in our industry.  How are you handling them?  What, if any, changes have you made regarding that very first contach with potential clietns?  Does Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google play a role in your process?  Once contact is made and a meeting is scheduled, what happens next?  How long are your consultations?  When do you talk price?  We are hoping to have at least 3 or 4 brave souls willing to participate in a mock consultation.  If any of you are willing to play a bride, groom or photog, please let me know.  We are all friends, so there’s no need to feel self-conscious.  (and it would really help us out).

Stacey and I are very excited to start 2011 with an awesome PUG event! We are very thrilled to announce that we just locked down an exceptional guest speaker. We are going to be having the very talented and fantastic speakers, Justin and Mary Marantz from CT here. They have been on a fast rise in the business and are excellent to listen to. Last night’s PUG holiday party was a blast!  It was so much fun to see all of you.  Congratulations going out to Dave Grube, Kristen Drufke and Don Pitlik who took first, second and third places in our first annual ugly sweater contest!  Huge thanks to Mike Colon and Lawrence Chan for their generosity.  Each of them donated a downloadable educational tool toward our contest!!

Just a quick reminder that our January meeting is scheduled for Tues, Jan. 10, 2011.  We are really hoping to have a couple of extra special guests joining us!

This Month’s PUG Info:

Happy Holidays everyone! 

Crazy as it sounds, it’s time once again for our PUG holiday party.  This year we are adding some fun, hilarity (is that even a word?) and great prizes to the night, by hosting our very first Ugly Sweater Contest!  Dig that baby out and wear it;  you just might win something cool.  We’re not saying what the prizes are, but trust me, they are well worth the embarrassment of that horrible sweater!

Here’s how it will go down:

1. arrive at the studio sometime after 6pm wearing the most hideous sweater you can lay your hands on.  (Does not need to have a holiday theme)

2. pop over to the photo booth and work that thang (the sweater I mean)

3. enjoy a frosty beverage and hang out with your fellow photogs and their significant others (who are of course invited)

We’ll have the Wii fired up and other goofy games available.

4. 8:30pm:  Slideshow viewing of all entrants. (which should be everyone at the party.  We’re not sayin a sweater is required to come, but seriously…wear a friggin
sweater.)   Voting will follow.

5. 9pm:  Award ceremony for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place sweaters

6. Party on…

We now live  right next door to the new Psycho Suzi’s, so if we feel like migrating over there at some point, it is certainly an option.

Jason and I really hope that everyone enjoyed our meetings this year.  We just love hosting them and getting the opportunity to know you all better.  What a great community we have here in the Twin Cities.  We are very grateful and appreciative of all of you:)
